Federal return was rejected with the following info -
SA-F8936-030-01 - Schedule A (Form 8936), 'VIN' does not match the e-File database. Please resubmit the return using the correct VIN. If the VIN originally entered is correct, then a binary attachment or [GeneralDependencySmall] with description beginning with "Substantiate VIN" must be present in the return.

The "lean more" link send me to a page of reject codes which don't include the code given in the email. Then it has me sign in to TurboTax online - but that just goes to the beginning where it is recommending which product to use. I completed and submitted the tax return through the desktop app - I never used Turbotax online. Where can I get help for this reject code?

The method can vary. You didn't say if your return is still in the preparation stage, or whether you have already finished, paid the product fees, and filed. So let's start off as though you've already finished your return. You can view/print/download a choice of PDFs. To get the larger PDF with the worksheets, if your return interview is closed, you have to open your return back up and go to the Print Center as I'll explain in detail below. NOTE: When you open your return back up, do not make any changes in it if it has already been filed. If you later have to amend the return, it has to start off exactly as it was when it was originally filed. Log in, and at the Tax Home scroll down the page near or after the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents" for 2025, look for a link/button "Add a State." Click on "Add a State." (you don't really add one. That's just to open your return back up.) After the return interview is open, you should have a full left column menu. Click in the left menu column on the tab TAX TOOLS, then PRINT CENTER. Then choose "Print, save, view this year's return." NOTE: If you are using a paid edition and have not yet paid, it will ask you to pay the product fees to proceed. If you've already paid, it won't ask you about paying. A screen should ask what you want in your PDF: Federal. state, or both (I always save both--just in case) and offer some options: "Just my tax returns", or "include government worksheets (optional)", or "include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional.)" The latter has the most pages. NOTE: Remember all PDF tax documents and tax data files are very sensitive files, since they contain your personal ID info, financial data, and possibly bank account numbers, etc. Be sure to store them safely and securely to guard against computer theft, hacking, etc.

When I installed 2025 in April 2025, I had so may problems, I was unable to even do my taxes. I paid a large amount on IRS Direct Pay and am hoping it was enough. There were very strange things with that install that have never happened before. I had to install Microsoft Visual C+ and 2022 Redistributable. Now I am trying to update it. why is my turbo tax updater struggling to update? The 1st time it wouldn't do anything and I had a hard time "X'ing" out of it. Then a couple hours later, I tried again. It brought up my administrator identity, saying that it downloaded to my computer. I signed in and gave permission, but it just sat there saying it would take 5 minutes but doing nothing for at least 30 minutes. Then all of a sudden it updated to 22%, 4 minutes remaining. Now it's an hour later an it has gotten to 31%, with 4 minutes remaining. What's wrong here?

so i bought this week directly from TT for Tax year 2025 for $60.. did not realize it is one year membership only. then i went on the taxaudit.com site, created an account and purchased the ones for the prior years for 39.99 ea. (5 yrs 2020 - thru 2024).. was comparing the agreements between the 2 purchases and realized the following TT Expiration Date of Membership: The Expiration Date of Membership is based on the Acceptance Date. If the Acceptance Date is on or prior to the initial IRS due date of the tax return without regard to an extension (typically April 15th), the Expiration Date of Membership shall be the initial due date of the tax return for the subsequent tax year (typically April 15th). If the Acceptance Date is after the initial due date of the tax return without regard to an extension (typically April 16th through October 15th), the Expiration Date of Membership shall be the extended due date of the tax return for the subsequent tax year (typically October 15th) Direct Period of Membership: The Period of Membership begins on the Acceptance Date and continues for as long as the applicable tax return can be audited by the IRS or State

Follow these steps:
Federal
Go to My Info > Edit your name.
Check the section: "Tell us the state you lived in."
Look for a specific question below it: "Did you live in a Michigan city with a local income tax?"
Select No (or ensure you haven't selected Jackson there).
State
Open to the Michigan interview.
Proceed until you see a screen titled "Michigan City Tax Returns."
Click Start/Edit next to Jackson.
It will ask for your Residency Status. Select Non-Resident.
The Allocation Screen: It will then ask how much of your income was earned in Jackson. Since you work there, you'll likely report your full W-2 wages, but the software will now apply the lower 0.5% tax rate instead of the full resident rate.

I am extremely upset. I did load all of the documents into the system, even the documents that the “expert” requested on the same day we spoke. He wanted to file an extension because he claimed he did not receive all my documents, when in fact there are no other documents required. I do not have self-employment income and did not receive a tuition government form, so unable to file those documents. Everything else has been submitted, now I have to wait on hold for another hour to be rematched. This seems unacceptable and I would like this matter resolved right away. An entire day has now been lost with the last “expert.” And now, when I go to set up another expert call, I am told it will not be until 10pm my time begore someone is available. Please help!

I have a Schedule K-1 with box 11 Code B The provided description reads: Schedule K-1, Box 11, Code B - Excess Deductions; Non-Miscellaneous Expenses Adjusted total income from 1041, line 16 -1000 add: net capital loss 100 allowable excess deductions on termination -900 Less:portion attributable to section 67(e) expenses : 100 allowable excess deductions - code B -800 Beneficiary's portion: 267 Instructions say to put this as a non-miscellaneous deduction on schedule A. I believe that I would apply the beneficiary portion ($267) somewhere, but I don't understand where. Since it's non-miscellaneous I would assume that it's should be applied to a specific type of deduction, (interest deduction, tax deduction, etc.) but there's not further clarification given.

W2 Box 11 is filled in with the same amount as shown in box 1 and box 16. IT-203 line 1 is zero, box 16 has the amount from W2 box 11. In the allocation section, it asked if all my wages and self employment income was earned in NY, I said yes, so I didn't get the allocation screen. Should I say no and then allocate the NQDC W-2 at 100%?
