If you have a 6 digit PIN issued to you by the IRS you need to enter it in order to e-file.  Go to Federal>Other Tax Situations>Other Return Info>Identity Protection PIN and enter the six-digit PIN.

You're entering your IP PIN in the area where you enter you e-file pin.

Follow the instructions in the TurboTax article How do I add or remove my 6-digit IP PIN? to enter your IP PIN in the correct spot.

There are two different kinds of PIN. An e-file PIN, for electronically signing your return, is 5 digits. An IP PIN is 6 digits. You are trying to enter your IP PIN in the wrong place. To enter your 6-digit IP PIN follow the instructions that xmasbaby0 gave you above.

As rjs and xmasbaby stated above, the IP Pin is entered in a different location in TurboTax.  To enter follow these steps:

  1. Login to TurboTax
  2. Select Federal
  3. Select Other Tax Situations
  4. Click See all uncommon tax situations
  5. Click the arrow next to other return info
  6. Click Start next to Identity Protection Pin

There are two different PINs entered in different places.

The 6 digit IP PIN is entered under Federal / Other tax situations  / Other Return Info / Identity Protection PIN.  The IRS issues an IP PIN to confirmed victims of identity theft.

The 5 digit e-filing PIN is required to electronically file your tax return.  You choose a 5 digit e-filing PIN the first time you e-file, and use it every year thereafter.

If you don't remember it, you can use your AGI (adjusted gross income) from last year's tax return.
