1099NEC is self employment income and you HAVE to file it on Schedule C and pay self employment tax on it. The SE tax is to pay both the Social Security and Medicare tax that wasn't taken out like on a W2 job.

Self Employment tax (Scheduled SE) is automatically generated if a person has $400 or more of net profit from self-employment. You pay 15.3% SE tax on 92.35% of your Net Profit (If it is greater than $400). The 15.3% self employed SE Tax is to pay both the employer part and employee part of Social Security and Medicare (FICA). So you get social security credit for it when you retire.

The SE tax is already included in your tax due or reduced your refund. It is on the 1040 Schedule 2 line 4 which goes to 1040 line 23. The SE tax is in addition to your regular income tax on the net profit.

So for 1099 income you need to send in quarterly estimated payments or increase W2 withholding to cover the Self Employment tax.

To prepare estimates for next year you start with your current return, (if you can't get back into your return try this, On the Tax Timeline page you have to select Add A State to get back into your return). But be careful not to change anything on your real return.

Say No to W4. When you get to the W4 and Estimated Taxes section, say you want to adjust your income to go though all the screens.

ALL of your income including the self-employment income and your W-2 income must go on the same tax return---you do not file a separate return for income reported on a 1099NEC.  It all goes on the same Form 1040.

You have self-employment income from DoorDash for which you will pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.   You will need to use online Premium software or any version of the CD/download so that you can prepare a Schedule C for your business expenses.

You have another situation---you lived in two states.    You do not say which state you moved from----but if it was a state with a state income tax you may have to file a part-year return for the state in which you had income from DoorDash and a part-year return for PA.    Or were you in a state that has a reciprocal agreement with PA?  What state did you move from?
