I assumed you were referring to a license activation code for desktop software (CD/download).  So this answer was for that situation.   If, however, you are in fact using Online Deluxe, also see my followup comment lower down in this thread.

Wait a minute.  You probably need to explain more.   Underneath your question above it says you are using Online Deluxe. 

 

What product are you using--Online TurboTax or the desktop software??.  I assumed above you were using desktop software (CD/download) and referring to a license activation code.   But that tag about "Online Deluxe" confuses the issue.  So what is your story?    Did you buy desktop product (CD/download), but used Online TurboTax by mistake instead?

I purchased the CD version to use on my old computer.  It is running windows 7.   I purchased a new computer that does not have a CD drive.  The License code for downloading is not recognized by you.

 A license activation code for 2020 TurboTax desktop software is normally a combination of letters and numbers.  If yours is all numbers, then that's bizarre.

I have the code.  It came with the disk I purchased new at COSTCO in 2020.  When I enter the code, it says that code has already been used.  Of course it has, I used it when I installed this software and paid my taxes.  It gives me Error code 603 and won't let me into the Turbotax.  But how can that be?  I never uninstalled the software.  I just haven't used it since 2020 and now it doesn't work.   I didn't think the code or the software would expire.

My name is Ruben McKenzie, I purchased the software and tried to download to a Windows 7 Laptop. I could not. Now I am trying to download on my other Laptop that runs Windows 10 but the software is saying the code was assigned to another computer

I entered the wrong code combination, erased and tried to re-enter

the code correctly  but the program will not permit me to enter the entire correct code.

How do I re-set the program so that  I can enter the code correctly?

Did you try closing TurboTax and relaunching it so it'll ask for the code again?  If that doesn't do it, then be sure there's not a blank character (space) remaining in the field that you can't see.  Highlight the entire field and tap your Delete button, and/or step through the entire field by repeatedly pressing the Delete button.

I just spoke with a representative and the license code may not work if you already used the CD. I was told that this is a gliche and the only work around is to purchase the download. This is ridiculous especially if the product is good for up to 5 devices. I was only offered a 20% discount for TurboTax's gliche. I think it is ridiculous for a customer to have to pay again for their product. It's also sad to hear that people are paying more for this gliche and that Turbotax doesn't even care to fix it.

Did you already pay for a download?   If so, the following workaround may not help any.   If you haven't already purchased one, the steps below could potentially avoid having to purchase a download.   In any case, you are correct that you shouldn't have to pay twice for a desktop product.  If you have done so, you may have some recourse for a refund. 

 

Did you install it on a computer that has a CD drive, and now want to install it one that doesn't have a CD drive, such as a laptop?  And when you try to use a download, does it say your product is already registered to another account?   If so, for some reason it won't let you use a download installation if you already used a CD installation.

 

If that's your exact situation, (i.e., you have no CD drive on the second computer and are getting that error) here's a workaround I've seen a couple users use if you want to try.   I've never tried it so it's all anecdotal.   I also don't know if it would work for both the Windows and Mac versions or not.  I don't use a Mac.   I also can't guarantee that you won't encounter any problems, and can't guarantee the license would activate, although I don't see why it wouldn't since it would think it's installing from the CD.

 

Using the first computer you could insert the CD and copy all the files from the CD to a thumb drive or other external USB device.   Be sure you copy them to their own dedicated folder on the USB drive so you can keep track of them, and they stay grouped.   You can create and name the USB folder something like "TT CD Install Files" or "TurboTax Install Files", etc. 

 

  Then take the thumb drive to the laptop, and then COPY the folder containing all the installation files from the USB device to the second computer (or set up a specially-named folder on the second computer and copy the files to it).   Then you can run the setup.exe file inside that special folder to install the "CD" directly from your hard drive on that second computer.

 

NOTE:   I wouldn't run the installation (setup.exe) and install the program directly from the USB thumb drive, or you could get data corruption errors.  I'd first copy the files over to the second computer as mentioned above and run it from the second computer's hard drive. 

 

If you decide to do that, please report back with your results.

@Virginia1983 Please let us know what happens with the suggestions you received.   You were given poor information by the CS rep you spoke to.  There is no way you should have to pay again for a download.   Your purchase of the CD/download gives you the right to install that software to other computers that you own whether you install from the CD or from a download.  I have posted this to the moderators.

Want to load it to new computer, have disc, but lost code card.
