I received a pell grant with financial aid. do I need to record this?

Yes, a Pell grant should be reported.  Include it in the Education section of Deductions and Credit. 

The Pell grant should be information that you enter from your Form 1098T.  Pell grants are included in Box 5 on Form 1098T.
