Why would I not be eligible to receive the January 2021 stimulus check? I filed a 2019 return and have been working fulltime since my college graduation in May 2020.

Both the earlier $1200 and current $600 are based on your 2019 tax filing.  If you were eligible based on your 20019 (or 2018) tax return, you'll have to wait til you file your 2020 tax return to get it.

Under the CARES Act, if you are claimed, or qualify to be claimed, as a dependent on someone else’s return you cannot receive a stimulus check, in 2020.   If you qualified as a dependent for 2019, but will not be for 2020, you will most likely get it in 2021, when you file a 2020 tax return.

In regards to the stimulus payment, when you file your 2020 income tax return, you will be asked for information about the amount of the stimulus payment you received, and if it is less than you are entitled to, you will be given a credit on your 2020 tax return.

"In essence, the stimulus check acts as an advance of your 2020 income tax refund. This means when you prepare your 2020 income tax return, there will be a line to include the section 6428 credit (line 30 on the 2020 form 1040). The credit on your 2020 return is subtracted by any amount received as a stimulus check in 2020. If the amount you received as a stimulus check is less than the credit you are due, the difference will be included as part of your 2020 refund. If you have been overpaid by receiving the stimulus check, however, you will not be required to return any excess amount".

Why was both my stimulas checks $1.200 ans $600 deducted from my Federal refund? Why was this not announced on national TV or any news broadcast for everyone to know it is a advance refund?

Are you saying that you filed your 2020 Federal 1040 tax return and did not receive either of the stimulus payments?

If you have not received your second stimulus check, you will receive your payment in the form of a Recovery Rebate Credit on line 30 of your 2020 Federal tax return when you file.

TurboTax will compare your one or two stimulus payment amounts to the computations within TurboTax.  The computations within TurboTax are based upon the information that you have entered into the tax software.  If you are due an additional amount, it will be issued as a Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) on line 30 of the 2020 1040 tax return.

In TurboTax Online, you are prompted to input stimulus check 1 and stimulus check 2 information under Review down the left hand side of the screen.

You can access your stimulus check choices by following these steps:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Across the top of the screen, click on Other Tax Situations.
  • At the screen Let’s keep going to wrap up.  Click on Let’s keep going.
  • At the screen Let’s make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click Continue.
  • At the screen Did you get a stimulus payment? you can update your stimulus check entries.

I spoke to one of your agents on the phone, whom said the stimulas payments I received were included with my YTD income. This was not true at all, I looked at my YTD INCOME FOR 2020 IT WAS JUST AS IT SAY'S ON MY  W-2 $21,481.90   THERE WAS NO $1.200 PAYMENT OR $600 ADDED TO THE YTD INCOME AS SHE SAID, BUT THE $1.200 & $600 TOTALING $1,800 WAS DEDUCTED FROM MY FEDERAL REFUND. WHAT IS TO BECOME OF THIS ERROR??

They weren't included in your income but they were included in your refund.  Turbo Tax started out by assuming you didn't get it and  giving you credit for the whole amount so your refund was too high to begin with.  Then when you entered what you already got the starting refund was reduced or the tax due increased. Otherwise you would be getting the Stimulus amount on your tax return again.  You don't get it twice.

Yes you can see your refund or tax due change when you enter the Stimulus payments.

So do this to check.  Put down 0 for the Stimulus payments like if you didn't get them.  Then look at your return especially line 30 and see that  Turbo Tax gives you the 1800 credit on line 30.  See what your refund is.  Then go back and enter the amounts you already got and check your return.  You don't get credit for them again on line 30 since you already got it.

Its not taking it away.  It's just not giving it to you again.

Before filing,  You can preview the 1040 or print the whole return

Have no idea who you spoke with from TurboTax but they were 100% completely wrong.  The stimulus payments you received are NOT income and are NOT included in your 2020 AGI.

When you started your 2020 tax return and entered your information for filing status and your income the program initially gave you the maximum Recovery Rebate Credit that you were eligible to receive.  This Credit amount was reflected in the Refund meter.

When you entered the stimulus payments you actually received the amount received was removed as a Credit from the tax return.

So the refund that you should be receiving would be shown after you finished the Federal Review section of the program.

You did not receive anything more or less then you should receive as a tax refund.
