This topic will come up during the state interview if your state allows a deduction for contributions to a 529 college savings plan. Not all states allow a deduction, and this can change from year to year. For example, the state of Maine has repealed the subtraction for contributions to 529 plans for tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2016.
