Solved
My private student loan was turned over to a collection agency - "Navient". I have no 1098-E.
You can still deduct it if you paid it (to the collection agency), and if you otherwise qualify - even though you don't have the form.
- Federal Taxes
- Deductions & Credits
- Education
- Select Student Loan Interest Paid (Form 1098-E)
You can deduct student loan interest if all of the following apply:
- You paid interest on a qualified student loan in tax year 2016
- You are legally obligated to pay interest
- Your filing status is not married filing separately
- You cannot be claimed as
dependents on someone else's return
