Question

Returns with 0 (zero) WFTC refunds are not eligible for electronic filing

This is the error for filing Washington State taxes questions. Washington does not have an income tax, but does offer WFTC. I don't qualify. Why does TT keep coming up with this error, "Returns with 0 (zero) WFTC refunds are not eligible for electronic filing."

My printed tax forms all have 'DO NOT FILE", "FORM NOT FINAL".

Why???

There are no smart check errors.

You could remove your Washington State Return and just Efile your Federal return.  TurboTax prepares the WA return automatically if you live there, for those qualifying for the WFTC.

For TurboTax Online:

  • Sign in and open your return.
  • Select State Taxes from the left-hand menu.
  • On the "Status of your state returns" screen, click the trash can icon next to the state you want to remove.
  • Confirm the deletion by selecting Yes

For TurboTax Desktop:

  • Go to the File menu and select Remove State Return

If you have already paid, this does not work for the online filing version, Marilyn. The algorithm will continue looping you back to needing to correct your state return, because there is an error in the Turbo Tax system that will not allow the WFTC worksheet to be deleted once you have created it. You can even backpedal into the Tools option, select "Delete a Worksheet" and you will discover that the WFTC worksheet cannot be deleted. TT needs to internally fix this. I spent four hours today trying to remove this to no avail.

If you've already paid for your State return, but have not filed it, try to Contact TurboTax Support and use 'Billing' as your issue.

You should be able to Efile just your Federal return and Request a Refund for the state you didn't file.
