Received 1098 with negative amount in Box 1

This 1098 was received from a Mortgage Broker that performed the refinance paperwork. Turbotax does not allow for a negative amount in Box 1

You will have to leave Box 1 blank. If that causes an error or prevents e-filing, enter "0" or "1".

In your case, the lender or broker gave you an interest credit (incentive) that exceeded whatever mortgage interest you may have had to pay in 2016.
