Do I have to take the lifetime learning credit? I am getting a credit of $40 and Turbo tax wants me to upgrade to a paid software for a deal of $59. I may not be an accountant but I am not stupid and won't upgrade. Can I just ignore the educational deduction part of the return?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Yes, you can file the return and not claim the Education Credit.
If you don't qualify for the Lifetime Learning Credit, or want to eliminate it, you'll have to delete the forms that are related to education credits.
If you see form 8863 and form 1098-T, delete them. Click here for instructions
