1098-T

I'm doing my daughters taxes and she has a 1098-T but a link to enter it isn't showing up after entering all deductions and credits.

To report the 1098-T form:

1. Log in to your account.
2. Go to Federal Taxes.
3. Go to Deductions and Credits.
4. Scroll down to Education and click show more.
5. Scroll down to Expenses and Scholarships (Form 1098-T).

If you are claiming your daughter as a dependent, you should report the 1098-T form on your return and you can claim all educational tax credits that qualify.

I have a similar question. I initially put in a number for my Daughters 1098-T, but now I have to update it. Turbo Tax won't let me update it, and I haven't finished or filed yet.

How can I change this amount? Everything else in the program is still changeable?

Go through the entire education interview until you reach a scree titled "Your Education Expenses Summary".  Click edit next to the student's name. That should take you to a screen “Here’s your Education Summary”. Click edit next to the section you want to change; tuition, in your case.

To enter your Form 1098-T information (even when TurboTax thinks it has already been entered and is showing $0), go through the entire education expenses section of your return until you reach the screen titled “Your Education Expenses Summary”, then follow these steps:

• Click Edit next to the student name.
• On the screen titled “Here’s your Education Summary”, click Edit beside Tuition.
• Enter the information from your Form 1098-T.

To go directly to the Education section of your return, use these steps:

• On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
• This opens a box where you can type in “education” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
• The search results will give you an option to “Jump to education”
• Click on the blue “Jump to education” link

Yes, you can make the changes if you didn't file your return.

1. Log in to your account.
2. Go to Federal Taxes.
3. Go to Deductions and Credits.
4. Scroll down to Education and click show more.
5. Scroll down to Expenses and Scholarships (Form 1098-T) and click revisit.
6. On the following screen, "Your Education Expenses Summary" click edit next to the school name.
7. On the screen "Here's Your Education Summary" select edit next to the tuition.

sometimes I wonder if long responses hide some of the critical messages. 

@Colonel @ffbloop - assuming Box 1 exceeds box 5 and your daughter is eligible to be your dependent, the 1098-T goes on YOUR tax return.
