Do I have to take the lifetime learning credit? I am getting a credit of $40 and Turbo tax wants me to upgrade to a paid software for a deal of $59. I may not be an accountant but I am not stupid and won't upgrade. Can I just ignore the educational deduction part of the return?

Yes, you can file the return and not claim the Education Credit.
If you don't qualify for the Lifetime Learning Credit, or want to eliminate it, you'll have to delete the forms that are related to education credits.
If you see form 8863 and form 1098-T, delete them. Click here for instructions
Try this one:
It says I qualify for the $672 LLC, then tells me I have to pay for deluxe federal AND state, so I upgrade THEN it tells me I don't to qualify for it but they are happy to give me exactly what I would have got without the credit but STILL charge me for deluxe. This company is so shady I will never tell them and as every single time in the past I've tried them they've tried to do stuff like this.
