There is nothing else to enter.  There is no state income tax in TX.  You get the deduction on your federal return.  That's it.

What do you think TT is not letting you take?  Are you filing a VT return?  Did you live in VT for part of 2018?

I did not live in VT for any of 2018 so I’m not filing a VT return. But I paid interest on my student loans and when I enter that amount (my 1098-e), TurboTax tells me that Texas does not require me to file state taxes. So now I’m confused as to how I can still enter my 1098-e to get that return as well as my federal return
