Q. I am getting $50000/ as inheritance check. would it be reported on line 11 of 1040-SR?
A. No. An inheritance is not taxable and it is not reported on your income tax return. So it. does not increase your income for student aid qualification.
Any income from an inheritance (e.g. interest earned before the executor distributed the money) would be reportable income. Typically, you will get an IRS form for such income (e.g.1099-INT).
@kavin77030 , generally US does not tax inheritance distribution ( of course it depends on facts and circumstances). So why do you think this is taxable income ( for Us purposes ) ?
Sorry, concern is about college which looks at line 11 of 1040-SR and if it crosses the income threshold they limit or withdraw the aid offer to student for that year. want to be sure if this amount goes on line 11? if yes I may postpone receiving the inheritance from executor for two years until the student graduate and then I can payoff towards any loans with this inheritance amount.
