Q. Am considered a full-time student?
Yes you were a full time student. Graduating in May, even May 1, counts as being a student for 5 calendar months.
Q. Do I have to submit the 1098-T form?
A. No. The 1098-T is only an informational document. The numbers on it are not required to be entered onto your tax return. However receipt of a 1098-T frequently means you are either eligible for a tuition credit or possibly you have taxable scholarship income.
If you claim the tuition credit, you do need to report that you got a 1098-T.
You claim the tuition credit, or report scholarship income, based on your own financial records, not the 1098-T. In the 1098-T screen, click on the link "What if this is not what I paid the school" underneath box 1.
Yes, attending at least part of at least 5 months makes you a student.
The 1098-T will either be used for a credit, will show you need to claim income or have no taxable effect at all.
The main concern is
did you pay more in Education Expenses (Box 1) than what you received in assistance (Box 5) or is it a wash?
