I pay my son's college tuition and entered the form 1098-T values. $9500 in tuition and $500 in Scholarships. When I finished the program said I can't claim an education tax break because qualified tuition program distributions exceed the education expenses. The 529 distribution was only $2000. Thus this statement is false. How do I fix it?

Go back through the interview for education expenses. You will be asked to choose the amount you want to allocate to education credits, if you have entered both the 1099-Q and the 1098-T. Enter the $7,000 there.
On that student Worksheet, you need to look at Part VIII line 3.
