Full Time Student Tax Exemption

My daughter is a high school student age 17.  Is she exempt from paying federal taxes?

Being under 19 just makes her a dependent on your return no matter how much she makes.  You can still claim her.  Did she get a W2?  Or a 1099Misc?  If she only got a W2 for less than 6,300 she doesn't have to file except to get back any withholding taken out.  If it is over 6,300 or a 1099Misc for any amount she does have to file her own return.

Be sure on her return she checks the box that says she can be claimed on someone else's return.  That is very important.

No. No one is exempt from paying federal income taxes. Age is not a factor and student status is not a factor.
