I recently discovered I never claimed the AOTC education credit on my 2018 taxes when my daughter (dependent) was a full time student and we had enough expenses. I have completed the amended 2018 tax return and printed the 1040x which includes my explanation for the amended return ("Claiming the American Opportunity Tax Credit"). The only thing that has changed on the 1040x is line 7, Credits (along with lines 8 and 11 due to the change in Credits).
From my understanding, I only need to sign and date the 1040x and include Form 8863. I do not need to include a copy of the amended 1040 or any other forms because nothing else has changed (I looked through all the forms to confirm). I do not need to include the 1098-T. Is this correct? This is the first time I have filed an amended tax return and I want to make sure I am doing it correctly before I take it to the post office today. Thanks!

You'll need to send the form 1040X (dated and signed) including form 8863. And I recommend that you include a copy of form 1098-T.
You do not need to attach a copy of the original form 1040.

Thank you! I will include copies of the 1098-T.
