Claiming lifetime education credit for two people?

Both me and my wife might be in school this year.  We claimed her tuition under the lifetime education credit for the full amount.  If I was to enroll would it combine these totals for still only one credit of $2000 or would it treat us separately, giving her the full $2000 and me 20% of whatever I spend up to $10K?
