Can I deduct college expenses for a non-dependent grandchild?

No, only the Taxpayer that claims the student's exemption can claim the education expenses for the student. Additionally, any expenses paid by you, or anyone else, for the student is considered as paid by the student and is also claimed by the Taxpayer claiming the student.
