Q. Am I able to claim the AOTC this year since I was technically enrolled or am I out of luck again?
A. You're probably out of luck again.
That said, your situation is not clear.
If you are simply paying off tuition, to the school, for classes taken in the past, that you didn't pay when you should have, then no, you cannot claim the AOTC.
You say the school sent you a 2024 1098-T with "half time or more" checked and that you are "technically enrolled". If you are not currently taking classes and they are only sending you a 1098-T because you are paying off past tuition, then no, you cannot claim the AOTC.
Why did the school allow you to continue in class if you weren't paying your bills. If they essentially "loaned" you the money to stay in school, then you coulda claimed the a tuition credit back then. You would have to have been half time or more to qualify for the AOTC. The other credit, Lifetime Learning credit (LLC), is only 20% of tuition paid (up to $10K) and is non refundable.
Tuition paid, on time, with money from loans, is eligible for the credits. Tuition paid late (in later years) is not.
