american opportunity credit optimizer taxable amount input

I am looking to revisit the American Opportunity Credit selector to alter the amount allocated to taxable education expenses. How do I find this page to remodel the amount I wish to use for the filing?

If you are using TurboTax Desktop, find and delete the Student Info Worksheet.

For both Online and Desktop, review the ENTIRE education interview until the last screen where the "Optimizer" is offered and the allocation can again be made.

Type letme (no space between let & me) in the search box. Then press enter. Then  click  on the link "jump to letme''.

TT will give you the option to select another tuition  credit or deduction.

There is no such thing as "taxable education expenses".  If you want to change the amount allocated to the education credit, that gets messy, except in the desktop/download versions, where you can do that on the student information worksheet.  In the online version, it may be best to delete the 1098-T and start over.

Thanks but this doesn't work on TTP MAC desktop. See below what I get when I type "letme"

It seems strange to delete the entire form & restart the tool but this is what the Intuit employee post above directs me to do. For me this did not work. I deleted the worksheet and then worked through the 1099-Q & 1098-T EasyStep again. No interactive tool became available. What a shame.

The page I found initially  was a GREAT improvement over what TT provided in previous years!!! which is why I wanted to revisit this page.

You are right it gets messy to adjust the table entries in part VI of the Educational Expenses section of the Student info Wks form.

I think that the correct terminology I should have used is to adjust the "amount used for exclusion" to obtain the "adjusted qualified expense" In any event this would be beneficial to determine the $ allocated between 0 & 4000. Made an update and wanted to play it out again but oh well.

Hm, I wasn't able to find a good answer for 'letme' 🤖💧

Enter a full thought or phrase, like "when are taxes due?" or "Amend my return" this time!

Deleted Student Info Worksheet as suggested, worked through the entire education interview until completion but no optimizer revealed
