1098T tax credit carry forward
I'm a grad student and I did not include my 1098 T information in my 2016 filing because I owed no taxes but I wonder if I should have. Could my tax credit carryover and reduce my 2017 tax liability?

You can't carry over education tax credits. They're claimed in the year for which you are eligible, and if you don't have the earned income/tax liability to claim them against, then you just don't get them.

And you need to enter it and your expenses because some of it might ADD to your taxable income and be taxable.

1098T tax credit carry forward
Q. I wonder if I should have (claimed my 1098-T and filed a 2015 return)?
A. The simple answer is No. But, taxes are complicated. Credits available to grad students are non refundable. So, the fact that you owed no taxes most likely means you did not need to file. If your scholarships (but not loans) exceeded your qualified expenses , there's a possibility you may have been required to file.
Q.Could my tax credit carryover and reduce my 2017 tax liability?
A. No. As others have indicated, both credits and the qualifying expenses, for credits and deductions, can NOT be carried over
