This information was helpful for reporting the Federal Income Tax Withholdings that was reported on my mother's 1099-R for an annuity. I need to take the question a step further, this same1099-R also reports Missouri State Income Tax Withholdings. Is there a similar way to transfers these withholdings to beneficiaries? Your guidance is greatly appreciated.
The top answer is very good. Thanks.
My 1099-R shows state (MN) tax withheld. I assume I don't enter that amount onto a federal form (1041). I guess I need to figure out how to enter it into my state return. I will look for something similar as shown for the federal withholding.
Where did you end up entering the box 4 tax withheld?
You will enter box 4 for tax withheld on a 1099-R under other in TurboTax. To enter follow these steps:
See screenshot below:
Shouldn't the amount from 1099-R Box 4 decrease the amount shown on the generated K-1 form? The amount on the generated K-1 forms does not seem to change regardless of what is entered for "Other tax withholdings" based on 1099-R, Box 4.
Yes, but you will need to add this yourself on the K-1 worksheet in Line 13 code B. Once you enter this, the amount will be allocated for each beneficiary in Line 13 code B.
This has been a known issue with TurboTax for over 5 years and it still has not been fixed. They could have at least put the instructions in the program instead of paying customers having to ask volunteers how to complete their taxes.
