This information was helpful for reporting the Federal Income Tax Withholdings that was reported on my mother's 1099-R for an annuity. I need to take the question a step further, this same1099-R also reports Missouri State Income Tax Withholdings. Is there a similar way to transfers these withholdings to beneficiaries? Your guidance is greatly appreciated.
Some states do not even require trusts to make estimated tax payments and others do not tax trust income at all.
Check with the MO DOR for the state rules for fiduciary income tax returns. A state refund would be the result of filing a state return, regardless, which would be independent of your federal 1041.
The top answer is very good. Thanks.
My 1099-R shows state (MN) tax withheld. I assume I don't enter that amount onto a federal form (1041). I guess I need to figure out how to enter it into my state return. I will look for something similar as shown for the federal withholding.
