Where do I enter in any commissions that I had to return because the contracts were canceled? Is that done in the Misc Expenses category?

That would certainly be acceptable. Just label it accordingly; cancelled contract revenue or returned commissions.....just something along those lines.
If you are filling in a Sch C look for that section in the INCOME area ...
