If you qualify for the Illinois Property Tax Credit, you will need your Property Index Number, sometimes called "parcel number" or "permanent index number." This number is located on your county tax bill or assessment notice (for property tax paid on your principal residence during the tax year for which you are filing your return).
If your property tax is paid through your mortgage, you can contact your lender for a copy of your bill. You may also get this number from your county assessor's office.
Schedule ICR is asking me for an adjoining lot PIN but I don't have any adjoining lots to my property. I left the field blank but I keep getting an error stating that this entry is blank and needs a valid PIN when running final check. Do I just ignore this error?
Your adjoining lot PIN is your Property Index Number as @MaryK4 wrote directly above your post. It is found on your county tax bill or tax assessment bill. Enter that, you can't ignore the error.
The Schedule ICR Adjoining lot pin error on my Illinois State tax return still doesn't make sense to me. The ICR form asks for adjoining lot info (county and PIN) IF included in my property tax bill. I don't own an adjoining lot so therefore it is not included in my property tax bill. So there is no PIN (parcel number ) for this non-existent adjoining lot. Since there is no information to enter into the adjoining lot fields on the ICR form I left it blank. The problem is that Turbo Tax gives me an error if the field is left blank. Looks like this is a problem with the Turbo Tax software.
Try using the PIN that is on your property tax bill for your house.
Yeah. makes no sense. i never had to fill an adjoining lot in the past either and I don't want an error by filling it out or not filling out. Seems like a glitch in Turbo Tax. I'm going to put in my PIN (parcel number) and cross my fingers and e-file taxes and wait to see if it comes back.
I have the exact same problem this year. I have my property number entered but it's asking for an adjoining lot which I don't have. I think it is a glitch in the system because my old house from 2 years ago had an adjoining lot and seems like somehow it is remembering this and trying to force it on me even though I no longer own that property. Very frustrating as it won't let me file with the box blank, I'm going to have to type "Empy" in the box and hope for the best.
Your adjoining lot PIN is your Property Index Number which is found on your county tax bill or assessment bill. Review your bill to see if a PIN is listed.
