Schedule C

I have an error which reads - " Schedule C: Other Expenses Text is invalid for Electronic Filing.  Please remove all preceding spaces or invalid characters."

When I go to forms - " Part V - Other Expenses - "Olympic and Paralympic Prize Money Smart Worksheet" is highlighted in yellow.  There is not entry and this does not apply to my tax situation.

I also have no entry in the Other Expenses section during input.

How do I get rid of this error so I can file my taxes?

Schedule C

Note that you have an entry that either starts with spaces instead of text or has non-alphanumeric characters in it in a description field under "Other Expenses." You need to get rid of this.

In the error dialogue usually the problem is highlighted, so it's possible you put something in, maybe even a blank space, and TT is not smart enough to just ignore that, or TOO smart to ignore it.

Here are some things you can try:

1) If you are using a desktop product, go to forms and delete the worksheet about the olympics. However, I'm guessing this might not be what is actually the problem based on the error message you are getting.

2) Just go to any input slots that you think might be the problem and completely delete the entries, using either the backspace key repeatedly or highlighting the whole entry and pressing delete. I have even had to do this more than once in a row to get the entry to be blank rather than 0.00.

[2a) If you have access to the forms view in your TT product, it may be easier to switch to forms view and find the errant field under other expenses on the Schedule C worksheet. Otherwise you want to use that error dialogue or go back through the interview until you get to "other expenses" under Schedule C.]

3) Print it out first, so you have your work, then delete the whole schedule C and start over--if all else fails, of course.
