Real Estate agent (Broker)

I am a real estate agent (working for a company) and received a 1099 misc. I was wondering if this should be entered as a business income or a personal 1099 misc? I do want to write off some mileage, cell service and things i had to purchase. Im leaning toward busines but im unsure.

Yes, enter it in the Business tab (in the Business Income section).

So even though I work for a broker i can claim this as my own business, correct?

Yes. If you received a 1099-Misc  (income in BOX 7 "Non-Employee Compensation") from the Real Estate Agency, you are considered an Independent Contractor for tax purposes.  Independent Contractors  (IC) are considered Sole Proprietors for tax purposes-- filing Schedule C  (Summary of Income/Expenses) along with their 1040.  Unlike W-2 Employees, IC's can deduct ordinary and necessary business expenses.

Yes, that would be the typical scenario as explained in @PerryR's post.
