We have tested entering Miscellaneous Expenses but are unable to reproduce the experience you have seen. It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2023" file to test this issue further.
If you would be willing to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information, please follow these instructions:
In TurboTax Desktop, open your return and go to Online in the TurboTax header. (On a Mac computer, choose File >> Share.)
We will then be able to see the same experience you are having. If we are able to determine the cause, we'll reply here and provide you with a resolution.
I am having the same exact problem. When I add miscellaneous expenses, the other expenses that you mention go away and they show as "NOT STARTED". I can add some miscellaneous expenses, but at some point this happens, not sure what is the magical number that cause this behavior.
You may wish to review the Schedule E worksheet for this activity to see how the expenses you enter are being reported. If you have paid for your return, see these instructions: How do I get a PDF of my return?
If you're using TurboTax Online, it's possible this is browser-related. Please log out of TurboTax, refresh your browser, and clear your cookies and cache. Then restart your browser and log into TurboTax again. Or try a different browser.

Thank you.
I think what was happening is that I used the rental for over 14 days. I used it myself a bit over 3 months. And the more expenses I add in miscellaneous category, the more it lowers all other expenses categories proportionally so the profit doesn’t go below 0.
At some point other categories can’t be reduced anymore so they get to 0 and show as “not started”.
This doesn’t happen for my other rental that I only used a week or so, profits go negative. It deducts the days I used it but doesn’t keep deducting as I add new categories.
It seems an odd behavior. If your deductible expenses are maxed out, it probably shouldn’t let you add more expenses categories instead of letting you add more expenses categories and decrease the deductible portion of other expenses all the way to 0.
