It sounds like your employer supplied you with a rail pass for transportation.
In my case, my employer allowed me to buy my own rail passes - with pre-tax earnings. So, I paid for them with money that I earned, even though taxes had not been paid on it. Do the tax authorities look on this situation in the same way? Thanks!
Employers often use Box 14 for an explanation of any subtractions from box 1 on the W-2. It does not affect your tax return. Please see this TurboTax Help article:
