I'm unable to access my 1040 Schedule E for editing. I can edit all other forms without issue. Anyone else having trouble with the Schedule E?

I am in the middle of input the Federal Taxes and I can not go back to the rental property to edit the Insurance expenses. Pls tell me how can I go back to it.

We don't know if you are using Online TurboTax or desktop software (CD/download), so I'll assume Online TurboTax for this answer.

Since you said "go back" to the rental property, that tells me you've already been through the rental property interview before.   And since you said "edit" insurance expenses, I'll assume you have already previously entered some insurance expenses.   These steps will tell you how to go back and edit the insurance expenses.

  • With your return open, in the left column click on Federal tab, then at the top click on Wages & Income.
  • You'll likely then get a summary screen titled  Wages & Income subtitled Your Income.
  • Scroll down to Rental Properties and Royalties and click the EDIT button.
  • The next screen should be a Summary screen that shows all of your rental properties.  Choose one and click EDIT.
  • The next screen should say "Here's (property name) rental property info".
  • Scroll down that page past the rental income section until you get to the Expenses/Assets section.
  • Keep scrolling down until you see a subtopic "Insurance Premiums" and click EDIT.
  • On the next screen, titled "Enter your insurance premiums", you can make the changes.  Then keep going forward (Continue button).
  • It will then take you back to the "Here's (property name) rental property info" screen.
  • If everything else is correct on that screen, scroll way down to the bottom right and click "Done."

Yes.  Schedule E has vanished.  Using Premier download.  Schedule E does not exist.  It was there last year.  When will the Schedule E be available?

It should be there.  It is available now.   Did you switch to Forms Mode?

Try these notes from prior years

Type in Royalty in the search box at the top and it should give you a JUMP TO link to go right to a page to enter rental & royalty.

Go to Federal Taxes tab
Wages and Income
Choose Jump to Full List -or I'll choose what I work on
Scroll way down to Rentals and Royalties - click start or update

I have completed and go to submit our return and a screen pops up which is a 1099-misc worksheet. It shows the amount of each royalty and instructs me to double-click either sched C or sched E (sched C is open for input?). I tried double clicking  but nothing happens! TT won't let me submit or print our return until this is corrected. Any ideas?

If you are using Turbo Tax Online, the most likely reason for boxes/buttons that don't work or not being able to enter information is that something in the web browser is not displaying the page properly. There are directions in this TurboTax Help article to clear cache and cookies. You will want to follow those instructions, then close your browser, reload it, and log back into TurboTax.

Another way around this is to simply use a different web browser.  You can select from Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari.  If you need to install another browser, be sure to go to the trusted home site for the software for  security reasons.

If you are using the Turbo Tax Phone App, then try opening Turbo Tax in the browser window on your phone. It will use the same login information but may display the page better.

If you are using TurboTax Desktop, try saving and closing the program and then relaunch to see if there is an update available.

Thank you, the only problem is it doesn’t show an edit button, only an “update” button which does nothing.

When you have your return open you can use the following steps to reach your Schedule E for editing or updating.

  1. Open your TurboTax Online/Mobile or TurboTax Desktop return.
  2. Search (upper right) for schedule e > Click the Jump to... link
  3. Edit beside your property > Select the category you want to edit or update

Please update here if you have additional questions and we will help.
