Could you please provide some details on the error? Do you mean alimony paid or received? Thank you.
Thanks Irene2805. Yes, I was referring to the Alimony paid screen.
@ Irene2805. I don't see the detail from my original post other than the headline question. The details are: Input field on Alimony paid screen for SSAN of my ex-spouse (to whom I am paying alimony). My Ex's SSAN begins with a zero. When input to the field, the software truncates (ignores) the leading zero and results in a SSAN of only eight digits rather than the required nine digits. I receive an error message that this is (obviously) an invalid SSAN.
Thanks for being interested and willing to help,
This was a glitch that is now fixed. Try typing in the SSN again.
SweetieJean, Thanks for your feedback. The glitch appears not to have been fixed. Perhaps I'm posting on the wrong page. Your reply appears to have come from Business and Farm version of TT. I am using Home and Business version, if that makes any difference. The issue to be addressed is that the input field for SSAN truncates leading zero. Example: I input [social security number removed]. See result in appended screenshot which truncates input to 123-45-678. The resulting message is 'Invalid social security number'
A new software release was available on 01/28/2021 which corrected this error. Have you updated your software?
Click on Online at the top of the desktop program screen. Click on Check for Updates.
DoninGA, Thanks for you reply. (1) I checked for update. Result: I have current version. Appears update not to have corrected the error.
I tried the following fixes with no success.
(2) I tried re-inputting SSAN. Result: still truncates leading zero and get 'invalid SSSN' message.
(3) Deleted Recipient. Added as 'new' recipient. Result: still truncates leading zero and get 'invalid SSSN' message,
(4) Deleted Recipient, Saved / closed program, restarted program, input to blank input sheet 'new' recipient. Result: still truncates leading zero and get 'invalid SSSN' message.
I realize a 'work around' is to go to the Tax Forms input (rather than the Step-by-Step input), and that does get the desired result. BUT since this seems to be a issue, at least for me, I wanted to make someone at TT is aware that a leading zero in an SSAN for Alimony recipient still truncates in the Home and Business s/w version I am using.
Thanks for your thoughtful comments in working for a solution.
