Program or calculation error on Farming Net Profit/Loss Screen

As can be seen in the screen shot below, only one farm is listed.  The values/calculations on the first line are correct, but on the TOTALS line, the last (Net Profit/Loss) line should match the line above and does not.

After reviewing the diagnostic file, we have determined that the difference between the Schedule F total and the amount shown on the Farming Summary page matches the current year depreciation expense. 

 

This display calculation does not affect your return in any way. We'll forward this finding to our development team for further review.

No. It may not be due to an error. For example, you may have certain expenses that may not appear in this summary.

 

Have you reviewed your other forms pertaining to your farming to compare the totals?

 

If after reviewing, you do not find anything and would like me to take a deeper look at this, I will need a diagnostic file. A diagnostic file is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:

 

TurboTax Online:

 

  1. Sign into your online account.
  2. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
  4. On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
  5. This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
  6. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

 

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

 

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent” *
  3. This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created.  Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
  4. Please provide the Token Number  (including the dash) that was generated in the response.

 

*(If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, “Send Tax File to Agent”)

Not sure that it really matters, since forms were all completed correctly and submitted, but did create and sent a  diagnostic file Token 1617851067-06099979.

While finishing the process found a couple other entry errors, so numbers on the summary page have all changed.  The two totals are now $45,532 and $51,331.  Interestingly the difference between the two is still $5,799 but didn't see an obvious correlation to any other values in the form to explain.
