Part Time Resident

Hi, I am filing my 2024 tax return and had a question about my award.  I resided in CT for 8 months of the year last year and made the majority of my income there.   I moved 8/15/24 and made about $12,000 while I was there.  When I moved to Vt, I got a new job and I made about $6,000 in the state that I now reside in.  However, I am only getting $1 back from CT when I paid a bunch of taxes there.  Why is that?  I claim 0 on my taxes and pay as much in taxes that you can on every job I worked.

CT part year resident is only taxed on the CT income. Working several jobs, frequently means not enough taxes are taken out when you combine the totals. How Nonresidents and Part-Year Residents are Taxed

Without seeing your return and your forms, we can't guess at your personal situation. You can take a look at the state tax withheld and divide it by the income. This may show you some of the issue. Perhaps you filed as a resident instead of part-year?
