No Special Depreciation Allowance option

With TurboTax Business, Under Business Asset, I add a new asset.  Sometimes, it would ask if I want to use Special Depreciation Allowance but other times there's no option for Special Depreciation Allowance for the exact same asset category.  However, if I got to Forms (instead of step by step), I can goto Asset Entry Wks and manually select "Elect OUT of Special Depreciation Allowance" to NO.  Is this a bug?

Also, how do I know what assets that I can use Special Depreciation Allowance other than 1st year placed in service?

No Special Depreciation Allowance option

That could possibly be a bug, but it is more likely due to the nature of the asset and/or the date placed in service.

The following IRS publication covers just about all of the relevant information on the SDA.

If you elect out of item, then all assets of that same category (5 year, 7 year, etc.) are also elected out.  I suspect that is what you are encountering.  If you say yes or no to one asset, the program is automatically applying that answer to all of the other assets in that category (which is required).
