My problem is my brother's estate is in Idaho and I live in Missouri.

I just read a question and reply from the lady that said she was confused about estate taxes income and expense. My tax lady told me to keep separate from my Missouri taxes.

Yes, you should keep your brother's Idaho estate separate from your Missouri taxes.  Here are some key points:

  • No Estate Tax in Idaho: Idaho does not have an estate tax or inheritance tax.  This means you likely won't need to worry about state estate taxes for your brother's estate in Idaho.
  • No Estate Tax in Missouri: Missouri also does not impose an estate tax. This means you likely won't need to worry about state estate taxes for your personal finances in Missouri.
  • Separate Filing: Your tax advisor is correct. You should keep the estate's income and expenses separate from your personal Missouri taxes. This ensures clarity and avoids mixing personal and estate-related financial matters

If you need more detailed information, you can refer to the Missouri Department of Revenue and the Idaho State Tax Commission websites.
