Exactly - what's the benefit of TT if, as TT claims, one can import tax related records from financial institutions. This appears to be a common problem. Should we reach out for legal advice?
I'd recommend you reach out to your financial institution and ask they remove their institution from TT's partner list. If you have a broker or investment advisor, contact them and complain (politely). For a large bank, contact the C-Level office. If you're a private banking client, contact the Chief Officer for Wealth Management.
Manually keying a 1099 isn't a work-around. That's ridiculous. Worst, TT crashes after reporting success. Not exactly a "premier" software package.
I could not import the 1099-b from Merrill edge, also give me the wrong data for the gain/loss in the invest income in turbotax. anybody has the same issue? please help me. thanks
The same error condition still exists on March 23, 2023. Clearing cache and browsing history does not fix issue as suggested in another post. I wish I knew how to get Intuit's attention on a critical fundtion failure!

Hello,
I just want to reach out to thank you for your detailed instruction. You saved my day! I was very frustrated with TT support since 3 different agents could not help me. The last one I talked to even sent me a refund request link since I told her that I am not going to pay for this crap!. Then with very little hope I stumbled to your post and I tried it and I got everything downloaded from JP Morgan Chase.
I just don't know how to thank you, if you live in Metro Detroit, I would buy you a dinner :-)!!!!
Thanks!
I have the same problem. What did you do to resolve this issue? Please help.
I am not sure why this post came to me to reply. I had problems downloading my info form Chase. However I also did my daughters taxes and her info downloaded perfectly from Chase. I have no idea why mine did not work or hers did expect it was at totally different times. So I don't think this will be of much help.
There are two parts to this problem. One has to do with not finding JP Morgan in the list of financial institutions. Just search for “chase” and it will find it. If that’s your issue then you are good to go.
the other part - which doesn’t seem to be resolved - is the failure message and TurboTax termination when trying to download from Chase.
I looked up my consolidated 1099 on Chase.com (found in an earlier statement with other tax details. I entered the 5 or 6 or 7 values manually. That’s a strictly manual bypass of sorts.
this may not be a full solution because that didn’t enter any actual stock transaction detail.
my return was “accepted” by the IRS, but I am waiting for their response before I’ll know if that missing detail is a problem.
The work-around is a pain, but works with trade-offs.
(1) Use the online Turbotax version,
(2) enter basic taxpayer information (name, address, taxpayer id),
(3) (a) log into your Chase account,
(b) locate and click on the "Security & privacy" tab,
(c) find the section labeled "Linked apps and websites; there should be an entry for Intuit TurboTax click on the ">" symbol (TurboTax should display as Active),
(d) click the ">" icon to the left of the TurboTax red checkmark,
(e) you'll see a list of your Chase accounts and accounts' last 4 digits; at the bottom right of the list you have the option to either "stop sharing data" or "edit sharing"; click on Edit sharing,
(f) here you can limit the amount of information shared. One TurboTax user advised turning off their mortgage sharing option which worked for them,
(g) as the online version had no problem sharing all information, you can keep all enabled. However, you may wish to enable only one accounts at a time for the desktop version,
(h) click agree to save your changes
For some reason, the online version has no issues regardless of the number of accounts or account transactions. Perhaps the desktop version has a limit. Unfortunately, Intuit TurboTax has provided no guidance here.
(4) Download the online Turbotax file to your desktop. You'll need to re-enter everything else which was not entered online. Essentially, you'll be starting your return again, but you will have captured all investment details required for filing.
Despite my writing to the office of the president of Intuit TurboTax, I have received no resolution. You, I and others have paid for a premium version which doesn't work as advertised. Caveat: I didn't experience these issues with several other banks. However, other Turbo Tax community members have complained of similar problems with B of A, Fidelity and other financial institutions.
Tradeoff: You may need to start your return from the beginning using this workaround, but you'll have all required forms and details from financial institutions partnering with Intuit TurboTax.
I'd recommend filing a complaint with your state attorney general and copy the complaint to Office of the [email address removed] or [email address removed].
Thanks HBShaffer,
I have already filed so I won't have a need to go through that process. I did check Chase and both Turbo Tax and Quicken are linked so I think it linked when TT tried to download mine. As I mentioned my daughter's Chase tax forms downloaded into TT without a problem so I don't understand why mine did not. It would have been easier for me as I had to send details of all my trades in paper form since I did not report them individually as it would have been too difficult. I hope the download works next year so I can avoid that manual step. Thanks again for your detailed instruction.
Don’t know if this will work for you, but what worked for me was :
1) cleared cookies and caches from my browser
2) removed existing ‘links’ between TurboTax and chase (linked the first time I tried which failed)
3) selected investment t accounts only (e.g. excluded the bank accounts) for TurboTax to import.
There are lots of posts on this issue at this point, I can’t tell you definitively root cause and fix. Somewhere I read the chase bank accounts are separate from the JP Morgan accounts behind the scenes and when TurboTax logs in using your credentials the two systems clash.
All I can say is good luck!
I have tried everything on here and I still have the problem everyone else has. I guess I am going to have to manually input it which is what I paid Turbo Tax to do. How about a partial refund??
They need to issue refunds
I have did all you did and I am still getting the error. I even disconnected from Chase and retried it. Nope.
