To have passive long-term capital gain flow to Schedule D, when you are entering the K-1:

·       In Box 11, select F

·       On the following screen check the box next to Capital Gain that is not Portfolio Income

This does not work for me; the capital gain does not flow to Sched D line 12.  Is there a bug in the program?

Some more info - it does flow to Sched D line 19 (it is an unrecaptured section 1250 gain) and to the appropriate lines on Sched D tax.  This results in it being subtracted from the capital gains taxed at lower than 25%, but it was never included in them in the first place (as it should have been if was correctly added to line 12 Sched. D).  It is correctly characterized on the K1-additional information form.

Final comment - I found the missing K1 gain on Form 8949 box F checked (long term transactions not reported on 1099B) flowing to Sched D line 10.  This form was used for other transactions as well.  So everything IS accounted for but I think the entry should correctly have been on Sched D line 12. It would have saved me the time I spent looking for it.

It doesn't go to line 12; If it is listed on 8949 box F checked then it goes to Sched D line 10 - at least mine went there.

The instructions on the K-1 from the partnership says Box 11F should go to Schedule D line 12 - this is specific instructions found at end of K-1 from the partnership

I know and agree that it should go there.  However it doesn't really matter if it is on line 10 or line 12 as it will be included in your total long term capital gains.  You could override the program and enter it on line 12 (and remove it from line 10) but then you wouldn't be able to e-file.
