My husband and I both have a 1099-R from his pension; he collected before he passed (June 2018); I received benefit after that. In box 7, his code is "7-Normal" and mine is "4-Death." But when I enter "4," a few steps later, TurboTax assumed I'VE died (asks for birthdate range of deceased).
It is referring to your husband's death. That is who it is inherited from. Those codes are correct for your circumstances.
