I am not trying to increase my refund. I have no tax liability even before I apply the solar tax credit so it doesn't help me even if I do apply it. That said, I am simply trying to back it out so it's not deducted from the remaining tax credit and enable it to be used in future years as needed. Make sense?
It does make sense. But you can't delete it. You nailed it the first time. No skipping years.
The credit carries forward from year to year. If you use it next year the IRS will look at your prior year return to find the credit. And, if you were able to use any of it this year and don't and then use that in a future year it will be a no-no.
If you want to keep the credit leave the form alone.
Thanks. That's the answer I was looking for. And in delving into the actual tax return forms and doing the math, the credit DID apply to my tax liability. It just wasn't so obvious in the step by step and summary that the program shows on the surface. Thanks again!
