Home Office Deduction

My spouse and I are both self-employed and work 100% of our time in a dedicated home office that we share.  We allocate that space between our two businesses and deduct our actual expenses for each.

This worked fine for years while we lived at one address in a home we owned.  But in 2021, we sold our home, rented another while in transition, then bought another home. We lived 3 months at home 1 we owned, 6 months at home 2 we rented, and 3 months at home 3 we own.  Throughout this time, we continued to share a single dedicated home office of nearly identical dimensions (10’ x 17’ or 170 sq.ft.).  Home 1 was 2,800 sq.ft. total, homes 2 and 3 both 1,780 sq.ft.

TurboTax Deluxe desktop application for Windows appears to only support two home offices and I have not been able to find a way to accurately reflect the reality which is one home office held consecutively at different physical addresses for the same businesses.

Any suggestions and expertise on this situation is greatly appreciated.

Home Office Deduction

Unfortunately, you are limited to two Home Office locations per business.

However, you can calculate the results for the third home office. Add two of the locations together and enter the net result as a single home office.

Since you have the Desktop version you can post the first and second, and combine them. Then post the last one so you can retain it next year for the home you live in.
