Cannot put total assets amount on page 1 of form 1120. Not required to file Sch L. Can not even override.

It depends.  If you are saying that you can't get to the Total, that should calculate automatically after you enter the detail of the assets you have.  

If you are saying that you can't enter anything in the Balance Sheet, please go back through the beginning of the balance sheet section and when it asks you if you want to skip this section (the Balance Sheet) answer NO, I want to complete my balance sheet, including income and partner capital reconciliations.  Please note that you will need to provide the details of assets, liabilities and capital, not just totals.
