Can I deduct mileage on my car for a temporary (11 month) relocation as a 1099 employee?

I just got a contract position that requires me to re-locate 2,000 miles for a temporary (11 month) position. I will need my car while I am down there, for both business and personal reasons. Can I deduct the mileage I will put on my car on the way down there (and maybe the way back) from my taxes if I document it accurately? Additionally, as it is such a long drive, I will be taking it over the course of several days, so I will need to pay for a few hotel rooms/meals/etc. Can I deduct these expenses as well? Thanks!

I'll start off with saying there is no such thing as a "1099 employee".

If you are an Independent Contractor (your own business), yes, you can deduct travel and hotel expenses when you are temporarily (less than one year) away from your "Tax Home" (see IRS Publication 463 for definition of Tax Home).
