5a or 5b on schedule A. i dont have scheduleA

I am assuming this is in regards to taxable state refunds. Line 5a and 5b from Schedule A are state income taxes paid deduction and the state sales tax deduction respectively.

If there were no itemized deductions on your prior year return, you will not need to report your state tax refund as taxable income.

I itemized deductions last year, but I don't see a line 5a on my schedule A. I show an itemized deductions worksheet, but I don't know what should match up to this. TT is asking for my Schedule A, Line 5a. I have downloaded and searched my entire return (prepared through TT last year) and I can't find the corresponding line. Can anyone help? I have what shows up as Line 9b - state, local and foreign income taxes allocable to net income (line 6, schedule A, line 5e). Is that the same thing? The total of that section (line 10 under line 9b) shows $0.

Line 5a is for state and local income taxes or general sales tax (you can deduct either of these, but not both).  If you deducted general sales tax, there is a little checkbox next to the 5a number that should be checked.

Line 5e could include other taxes in addition to state income tax, namely real estate taxes and personal property taxes.

If you itemized deductions, you should find Schedule A in the PDF of your tax return, after the Form 1040 and Schedules 1, 2, and 3 (if applicable).
