Can the irs take my money from a joint return last year?

So last year my now ex husband and I filed jointly, and ended up owing the irs. This year we are no longer married so I filed alone and head of household. Can the irs take the money owed out of my return when it was both of us who owe it?

Yes. Since you are liable for the debt, they may offset your refund as well as his. I'm not sure how they would determine the amount to take from each of you though.

Ok thank you so much! I figured that would be the case, but I thought a second opinion wouldn't hurt! 🙂
