If you have already e-filed or mailed in your return, you are not able to make any changes to your refund options. If your financial institution rejects the deposit, the government will mail your refund check.

If you have yet to file your taxes, you can still change your direct deposit information by following the steps in this FAQ: How do I change my transferred direct deposit information?

Is there a chance the bank won’t reject the return. If so, how will I get the money ?

If your routing number is incorrect, then IRS will not be able to deposit your refund. The IRS will then issue a check to be sent in the mail to you.
