Hi all - I realized that I used the wrong bank account number. I used the paper & electronic routing number correctly, but for my bank account I realized I used the wires routing number instead of my bank account.
I should have realized something was wrong when both the state tax return and the federal tax return asked me to verify my ID.
For the state return I have already verified my identity last week so the transfer is probably made. What happens now? What can I do to track this progress and see if my bank rejects this, and then how long until I get a paper check?

verifying your ID probably has nothing to do with the bad a/c number. Both the IRS and state would try direct deposit using the a/c number you specified. when the bank won't accept the refund it's returned and a paper check is issued. maybe if you provided your correct a/c number when you contacted your state a direct deposit might still be done but without a correct a/c number expect a paper check. your federal check could take 2 to 4 months.
The ID verify happens BEFORE the return starts being processed so that had nothing to do with it ... when the deposit is rejected the IRS will automatically convert it to a check mailed to the address on the return. Expect it to take as much as a month to happen.
