Wrong bank account number on taxes

Have you already filed the return? Or do you just need to change the account number that transferred over from last year's return?

If you have already filed your return, there is no way to make any changes once the return has been filed and accepted. If the bank account you provided is a closed or invalid account, the bank will reject it and send it back to the IRS. The government will then mail you a refund check to the address provided on your tax return.  

NOTE: If your return gets rejected, you can then change that bank account information and re-submit the return.
