If you filed through TurboTax, check your email. They send a receipt or email when you e-file. First they send an email saying that your return has been sent. Then, 24-48 hours after it is sent they will also email you to let you know if it has been accepted.
If you think you filed already, did you happen to save a copy of the return? Like a pdf or anything?
I'm only asking because if you know what your total refund amount should be (or if you can find out), you could use the "Where's My Refund" tool on the IRS website to check the status of the return. If you did submit it already, it will have a status. If you didn't, then it will tell you that also.
Another idea would be to call the IRS. Personally, I'd save this for last because in my opinion it's quite the hassle.
Edit: Otherwise, it would seem someone else has filed in your place. Possibly a spouse or relative, and hopefully not anyone else!
Also, check to be sure your SSN is correct in all fields where it is required. If they don't match, you could possibly receive the same error. And the same thing for any dependents, if you are claiming anyone.
*If you are attempting to claim a dependent, it could be possible that someone else has already claimed them. You could possibly receive duplicate SSN for that reason.
Sorry, trying to cover all bases here.
Well, it was fine at first. But when it had asked me if I had another W2, I said yes... and then it wiped the "Total refund amount" at the top and replaced it with the 2nd tax return. Then I continued and E-Filed with the 2nd one only.
However , since there are 2 federal tax returns, I think the SECOND ONE I inputted took priority and E-Filed successfully.
The other did not go through for whatever reason. But it showed up AT FIRST when I put in all the information just fine.
Am I allowed to file 2 federal tax returns ?
And yes, I did get TurboTax "confirmations" but it is not showing up at all on my TurboTax status.
No, you are not able to file 2 returns of any kind in one year.
If you forgot to add anything to the return, you would have needed to file an amended return to add anything.
Since you have 2 returns filed, and we cannot see them in this public forum, it would be best to click here to give us a call so we can look over your returns and account to clear this up. @sm333k

No both W2s should still be on your return. Check 1040 line 1 for the total wages. You probably saw the refund refund reduce. That is common. It just looks that way because you put them in as separate W2s and saw the tax due change in between them. If it was all on one W2 you would get the same result. And each job was withholding like it was your only job.
Because you only get one standard deduction no matter how many W2s you enter. Turbo Tax starts out by giving you the Standard Deduction. You entered more income when you entered the second W2 but you didn’t enter more deductions. And each job only withheld taxes like it was our only job for the year. You might want to adjust your withholding. Also as you add more income you might not be getting as many credits as before like the EIC credit.
Okay I did it. I had to wait for them to accept my W-2 for the original/1st one.
Then I e-filed/submitted my amended return with the new/2nd W-2 and it finally transmitted !
